Roger Wilco
Just got back from a great Wilco show at the Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis. It was a nice break and post “Lysistrata” madness (I'll have to post later about the great experience performing with the Theatre Limina crowd); and it’s always great to see Jeff perform. Great mix of songs, most of which came from the last two albums. Three of the highlights from the show (besides going to the show with Pam – I’m a very lucky bastard):
1. Jeff bitching out some asshole in the front row. The jerk walks in late and yells something to everyone sitting behind him and then gives the crowd the finger. As if he’s great because he has a seat in the front row (his poor parents, you spend all your time trying to raise a decent person and you get this piece of suburban entitlement.) This happens during the first song. Jeff, about ten songs later, then greets Minneapolis saying that there is something that he really needs to get off his chest and then tells the dude that was “fucking asinine…and it hurts my feelings.” Compulsory crowd cheers follow.
2. Jeff gets a little bit political at the end of the show and encourages everyone to vote. He wasn’t that articulate in his argument, but still demonstrate the Bush administration does not represent American values.
3. Hearing“Kingpin” was another highlight. How often do you get to hear Pekin, Illinois referenced in a song? It was also a nice touch to have a few songs from the first two albums.
Well, just over a week until the election and it was so nice to have an evening out with my lovely wife and hear one of my favorite bands. Ok, now on to more important things…like figuring out my costume for the “Cannonball Run”-themed Halloween party we are going to this weekend. I’m torn between Captain Chaos or Doctor Nikolas Van Helsing. Thoughts?
Best wishes.
Matt
