Your Good Deed for the Day

My sister, a lawyer, and some of her attorney friends have created a project to help encourage twin cities metro area public housing residents to vote in the upcoming election. It's a non-partisan outreach, and they need some funds. You can donate to them via paypal here. Details about the project are below. You know what to do!

The goal of the Voter Coach project is to encourage twin cities metro area public housing communities to make their voices heard by voting in the upcoming general elections. We have partnered up with the public housing authorities in Minneapolis, St. Paul, South St. Paul and Bloomington, as well as Miller Bus Company, to provide transportation to and from precinct polls to public housing residents.

In addition to transportation the Voter Coach Project has a dedicated core of volunteer attorneys who are brushing up on their election law knowledge and committing to go to the polls with residents utilizing the Voter Coach services to make sure that every vote is counted. An official study of the votes in 40 U.S. Congressional districts during the 2000 general election determined that an estimated 1.9% of the ballots cast in the presidential contest were not counted. The study also revealed that the great majority of the disenfranchised voters came from working class and minority areas of the country.

The Voter Coach Project is a non-partisan effort. As a result, we are very limited in where we can turn to raise money in support of the project. Because we have such a wonderful network of volunteers and the cooperation of the metro area housing authorities, our only expense is $2,000 for the four buses that we have contracted. Please consider making a donation; any amount you are able to contribute will be greatly appreciated.
