Getting and Spending?

These days, you can't glance at the papers without seeing what must be W's now-most famous quote: "Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it."

When you think about it, it's a damnably odd thing for W to say. First, he didn't earn much capital - going by the returns, just three cents on the dollar more than the guy he beat. Second, the metaphor of earning and spending sounds asinine coming from the biggest deficit spender in American history. Third and last, this must be the first capital W has actually (allegedly) earned. Till now, all of W's mad money has been garnered through gifts from Dad and his buddies or the Supreme Court. And anyhow - has he factored in Beelzebub's share? I'm sure the loan's coming due any day now.
