Belief
This is cool. John Brockman, publisher of the website the Edge, asked some of world's leading thinkers "What do you believe is true even though you cannot prove it?" He got 120 responses from heavyweights like Roger Schank and Richard Dawkins. Some of the beliefs:
- That people cannot be rational (Schank)
- That there is a God (David Myers)
- That there is not a God (Robert Sapolsky)
- That animals are sentient, conscious beings (Joseph LeDoux)
- That babies are more conscious and aware than adults (Alison Gopnik)
- That true love exists (David Buss)
- That both cannibalism and slavery were prevalent in human prehistory (Timothy Taylor)
Some of it's way over my head, but it's fun - and educational! - to poke around.
