Super Bowl Bombast

Super Bowl, Schuper Bowl. What I really dug was New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft's speech on being presented the Lombardi Trophy after the game:

Fans of New England: The best fans that any team could wish for. This is your 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years. This great accomplishment happened because we are blessed to have smart and talented players, a brilliant, tireless coach in coach Billacheck [sic] and his entire staff; and a great personnel department led by Scott Pioli.

The NFL is the great leveler of all sports. And the Super Bowl is the highest form of competition.

Competition is the foundation of what made this country great.

And I am proud that we were able to win this Super Bowl with stressing team, and not individual accomplishment.

We're honored to be here....
What a crazy bit of speechifying! Saying the NFL is a "great leveler" on the day your team becomes a football dynasty, defeating the league's own schemes to prevent dynasties. In one breath, tying together capitalist competition like that which created his fortune and football competition - the most contrived sort of competition imaginable!

For a politcal philosopher, he's a good team owner.

(Note: It's fabulous that I could even find this on the Web. I was flabbergasted by the live speech, but when I googled for it on Monday, I couldn't find it. Lo and behold on Tuesday, there it is, including video...)
