Watch out for paper cuts

'Member that one time when Dear Leader said he couldn't commit to an exit strategy? That, in fact, making such a commitment would actually aid the enemy? And that other time when he said that American troops would stay in Iraq until their job was done and that the U.S. would not "yield the future of the Middle East" to Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda terror network? 'Member that?

Yeah. Well, apparently ... not so much. Simianbrain reports:

A secret British document called Options for Future UK Force Posture in Iraq has been leaked. The BBC reports that in it, British Defence Secretary John Reid writes of his government's desire to begin a phased draw-down of troops as early as October 2005. By April 2006, the UK would maintain a force of only 3,000 (down from 8,500), and all British-administered areas would be under Iraqi leadership.

But here's the passage most significant for Americans who believe it's immoral to invade a nation, invite every jihadist on Earth to come play there, and then leave:

Mr Reid also wrote of a "strong US military desire" for "significant" troop reduction.

He suggested the US wanted to hand over control to Iraqi forces in 14 out of 18 provinces by early 2006.

But the document also said the Pentagon and US commanders in Iraq were divided over the plans.

The paper says Washington is considering a force reduction to just 66,000 troops.

And there's a lot more where that came from. Boy, they just can't catch a break with the memo leaks, huh? It's like they're corrupt and unprincipled or something.
