New Lies to Old Europe

Don't count Finland as one of the (few) countries which were convinced by Condoleeza Rice's vagaries and restatements of the obvious regarding torture and extraordinary rendition during her recent trip to Europe:

Finland is disappointed with the answer it has received from the United States with regard to a stopover of a suspected prisoner transport plane at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. .. According to [Erkki] Tuomioja [the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs], the letter received is clearly an identical copy of the reply that has been sent to all European countries that have requested further clarification.
And really, who could blame Finland or any other doubters? Rice used every possible gambit to lie without lying, from using the present tense (when everyone knows that the offenses occurred in the past) to saying that, in essence, well, sure, some rogues might be breaking our law but the President would never permit it. She should be ashamed.
