Ice - Evolution in Action

As the temperatures rise here in Minnesota, both the ice and people's brains get mushy:

Two women were rescued after the SUV they were in went through the ice on Lake Minnetonka on Saturday evening.

Officials say a 24-year-old woman was driving out to meet someone at a fish house when the SUV broke through the lake ice and became submerged just after 6 p.m. Saturday. (More)

And more tragically:
A North Dakota man died Sunday after his snowmobile went through the ice on Pelican Lake. Cody Livingood, 25, of Langdon, N.D., went missing under the water after his snowmobile plunged through the ice next to open water by the river channel Sunday morning. (More)
The snowmobile driver met his fate at about 2:30 am. Hmm. I guess it would be hard to see where the ice ends and the water begins at that hour.
