High on Oslo
Especially since 9/11, I - along with many like- and right-minded friends - have longed to live elsewhere. Norway's a perennial "if only" destination, for all the usual reasons. For five years running, those pinkos at the U.N. have rated Norway as the world's best place to live. More crucially for me, and despite the way their ski teams are tanking, Norway also leads the world in coffee consumption per capita - about 19 pounds per person per year. Home consumption has been stable for several years, at around 5.4 kilos per person. The remaining coffee is served at work and in cafes and restaurants. Norway, like many other countries around the world, has also seen a big increase in the number of coffee bars that have sprung up in the past few years, where it's become trendy to sip speciality coffees. There are no Starbucks coffee shops in Norway, however.
No Starbucks!?!? As if that's not enough, don't forget the phallus maps.
