Winter Olympic Retrospectives

With just a few days left to the opening of the 2006 Winter Games in Torino on Friday, Eurosport - the less hyped-up but far more soccer-obsessed European counterpart to ESPN - has been running daily retrospectives on previous Winter Games. They're pretty interesting mix of political, athletic, and social information. Didja know, for instance, that the 1980 games at Lake Placid were a total mess due to "malfunctioning communication systems, a lack in transportation, and overpriced tickets"? Or that Denver forfeited its games in 1976, and Innsbruck, Austria, stepped in? Or that gender testing at the 1968 games discovered that one of the Austrian women was in fact a man?

Links to the recaps (to date):
1980 - Lake Placid, New York
1976 - Innsbruck, Austria
