What, me lazy?

I know, I know - all I've been posting lately is link roundups. It's just been one of those weeks. But I do keep stumbling across fun/provocative/interesting things, so I might as well share, right? Anyway, here are some recent tidbits. Hope to do some more substantive blogging soon.

Bob Harris alerts us to the plight of a Diebold whistleblower who's getting royally screwed for having alerted the media to some of the shifty stuff Diebold's been up to. If you care about the voting process in this country, this is one worth checking out.

Crooks and Liars posts a link to a surprising clip of Dubya. I say "surprising" because it's literally the first and ONLY time I've ever been able to watch Dear Leader on camera without wanting to punch him in the face. I have my theories as to why this is true (King George doesn't feel threatened by the autistic kid, "J-mac" fits neatly into his conservangelical ideology as someone pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, etc., etc.) - but the point is, he comes off looking actually human in this. For once. (And it goes without saying, I hope, that J-Mac himself effing ROCKS.)

Amanda at Pandagon offers up some some trenchant and tragic quotes from those involved in the Orange County gang rape. Not for the squeamish of stomach.

DUH Op/Ed of the day from the Seattle Post-Intelligencer: "Women's Rights Haven't Fared Well With Bush." Gee, you think? Catch up, people!!

MN drops AIDS hotline, which provided referrals and counseling on AIDS. Cuz, you know, it cost like $135,000 a year, which is, what, one gajillionth of the state budget? And plus, it's not like AIDS is a problem in MN ... er ... wait ...

Academic Coach points us to an AWESOME article on educational jargon and advice on how to avoid it. Best pointer: "The only person who gives a squanker’s farley about literature reviews and historiography is your thesis adviser. We request that you get on with the article and reduce arcane debates to footnotes. The latter should be typed in three-point Wingdings font." Squanker's farley! HA!

A handy guide on when to use different graphic formats like JPEG, PNG, and GIF. Helpful for those of us who are graphic dorks.

And finally, this choice subway guide that lets you search pretty much every major subway system in the world. (And no, I'm not talking about the sandwiches. Settle down!) Now THAT'S a handy function.
