The invisible cost

The LA Times had a really terrific article in yesterday's paper, taking an in-depth look at what will surely be the lasting legacy of the war - the huge number of wounded veterans being sent back from the front lines. It's easy to focus on the numbers of dead as a measure of how the war is going, but - as this article points out - "better" medical technologies, though drastically lowering the number of casualties, also means that many more soldiers are sent home alive, but seriously maimed. Anyway, read the article. It's an eye-opener.
