A Meme I Can Live With

You heard it here first, unless you read blogs more than I do and/or get to posting more quickly than I do: the Democratic Party does not suck, is not leaderless, does not lack for ideas, is actually functioning more or less like a real opposition party.

The best phenotype of the "Dems have a spine!" meme is Amy Sullivan's great article in the Washington Monthly: "Not as Lame as You Think." The best proof of the accuracy of her title comes from the recent battle over the immigration bill, succinctly and aptly summarized here and here and here.

Huzzah! But at the risk of jinxing it - do we have a chance in November, and two years later?
