Then, I looked down at my hand and it was a half-dollar-sized open wound. I could see all muscles and tendons and bones in my right wrist, and right then and there, I said to myself that this was a little more serious than I thought. If it would have happened closer to the finish, I would have gotten back on my bike, but when you see parts of your hand that you're probably not supposed to see, it changed my thinking dramatically.
