Katrina, one year later

I've been reading and watching a ton of the Katrina retrospectives this year (not much else to do while nursing, donchaknow), and I gotta say, most of it can be summed up in one little phrase: "fuck you, poor people." The level of racism, classism, and neglect-by-design is simply staggering to contemplate. Just when I think I can't BE surprised by the depths to which the Bush admin will sink, I see the "progress" reports on the Katrina "recovery" and want to hurl all over again. There are about a ton of excellent posts on this issue - Shakes has the comprehensive link guide - but I'd particularly recommend Facing South's posts and Digby's numbers rundown as essential reading.
