Today in the History of Democracy

Today in 1792, French republicans imprisoned Louis XVI and his wife, Marie-Antoinette, all but ending the monarchy and sending them on the path that would lead, after a failed attempt to escape the country, to the guillotine. Of course, France's experiment in democracy featured the Reign of Terror and ended in Napoleon's takeover. Any thoughts, Mr. Maliki?
