Sunday Sports - UPDATED
I dunno about you, but I'm looking forward to voting in a few weeks. Partly this is because I have the chance to support good candidates like Amy Klobuchar and Colleen Rowley. Partly, it's because going to the polls will be a good prelude to an evening watching the returns on what I hope will be a catastrophe for the GOP.
In case you needed them, the weekend brought two more good reasons why the GOP and its candidates are worth voting against. First, Klobuchar scorched Mark Kennedy on Meet the Press today; the Minnesota Monitor liveblog of the debate is well worth reading. Klobuchar came off as (more or less) senatorial, whereas Kennedy came off as a W. wannabee who's running from W. as fast as he can.
Second, U.S. House candidate Michele Bachmann, in yet another attempt to gather the religious-right votes that she absolutely needs in order to beat Patty Wetterling, stumped at an evangelical church on Sunday. That's bad. What's good (as pointed out, again, by Minnesota Monitor) is that Bachmann's appearance and the pastor's explicit endorsement of her candidacy seem to violate rather strict IRS regulations about politicking at churches. These violations, if they're pursued, may mean that the church will be stripped of its tax-exempt status. That'd take a long time to occur, but it'd be great to see.
UPDATE: I take that last part back: "Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has just reported that they have filed an IRS complaint against Living Word Christian Center for their endorsement of Congressional candidate Michele Bachmann (R- MN6)." Full story.
