Gay Penguins!
I love this. A scientifically-based, child-friendly way to teach kids about same-sex parents:
In 1998, two male penguins from the Central Park Zoo met, became inseparable and showed a desire to become parents. The penguins, Roy and Silo, inspired a children's book, "And Tango Makes Three," published by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing.
Some local parents and educators think the book could be a valuable tool for teaching children about same-sex couples.
The zoo's penguin keeper, Rob Gramzay, noticed during breeding time, the two male penguins did everything a male and female couple did, making a nest and defending it.
Curious to see what the penguins would do with an egg, Gramzay gave Roy and Silo a rock to see if they would incubate it. To his surprise, they embraced it, so Gramzay gave the penguins an actual fertilized egg and the fathers happily incubated it.
They cared for the chick and nurtured it like doting parents.
