Hump-day Top 5 list
Today is one of those days where I REALLY want to quit my job. (To be fair, I feel that way somewhere upwards of 80% of the time.) But you know what I like better than work? Words. Mmmmm, I love me some words. Big ones, small ones, old ones, new ones - I love 'em. Even better, I just found a website where you can post your favorite words, along with an explanation as to why they're your favorite. So today's top 5 list should answer the question: What are your top 5 favorite words? Doesn't have to be of all time; just right this very moment. Here are mine:
1. Ensorcell - sounds much more magical than "put a spell on" or even "enchant."
2. Unctuous - I find this word exceedingly useful for describing certain members of the GOP.
3. Limpid - it's so evocative of its own meaning: smooth, calm, flowing, clear ...
4. Scuppernong - reminds me of my southern childhood, plus it's hella fun to say.
5. Metonymy - my favorite of the rhetorical tropes. (Yes, I have a favorite. I am THAT big a nerd. Were you ever in any doubt?)
