Flying Is Easy, Landis Is Hard

Today's stage was the hardest of the Tour de France, and Floyd Landis, the American who had been in first place after yesterday's (second-hardest) stage, wasn't up to the task. A horrific bonk on the day's final climb allowed Floyd's rivals to put ten minutes into him, and he fell from first to eleventh place overall, a staggering eight minutes down. Unless he has a superhuman ride tomorrow and in Saturday's time trial, he'll finish well off the podium.

[Update: Judging by this interview, Landis seems to be doing okay, mentally; it's hard to imagine Armstrong reacting this well to have cracked that bad.]

In other news, look how skinny you have to be to win a mountain stage in the Tour de France: Frank Schleck (yesterday's winner) Michael Rasmussen (today's winner).
